How dog walkers got a rabbit

As a child, as far back as I can remember, I wished for every Christmas, birthday, for every great dog certificate. Of course, the parents hoped and believed that my sister and I would either get away with it, or that a less demanding animal would be enough in their eyes. And so we had a nice constellation of animals. Some were only temporarily lost to their owners, others were rightfully ours. One of ours was Delinka - a dwarf Angora rabbit.

Delinka was a golden, cuddly little rabbit girl. She could walk on a leash in an exemplary manner, come when called, she always lay on the lap of someone from the family and let herself be scratched by the TV. Unfortunately, she left in about a year. Our first female came after her and I stayed with the dogs. Nevertheless, bunnies stuck in my head as nice, smart, docile and cuddly creatures.

As an adult, I adopted a female dog and became a lover of houseplants, which again led me in a detour to rabbits. You ask how??

My boyfriend and I moved into a new apartment and I wanted to get an eyelash curler. I also got a super round glass container for it, but it seemed too big for a single eyelash ball. My friend and I agreed that we couldn't fit another dog in here, but we could handle a smaller animal, so we started considering a little warrior fish. We quickly agreed that she would struggle in a glass ball, but that smaller species of less demanding freshwater shrimp would be suitable there. We became absolutely enthusiastic about them and decided to buy a full-fledged aquarium with shrimps, find out information, etc. I enthusiastically discussed the whole thing with a friend who at the time was planning to buy guinea pigs for the fence. She had one in the past, it was good friends with her dwarf rabbit. And so I started to remember Delinka. At how great she was and I loved her and out of curiosity I looked at how much bunnies with PP cost and it was done.

I fell in love with one of the females, but the breeder was quite adamant about the female, and when I went to find out about the experiences of others, I got a call from a lady from a rabbit shelter, where we went just to get an idea. I was determined that if we adopted an adult rabbit. I held a few of them that day, they were beautiful, but I didn't feel "it" with any of them. Then I just took a few dicks for a cuddle and suddenly it happened. The penultimate one "sniffed" me all over and then licked me a little and I knew it was him.

Already on the first night we came up with a name for him - Lemmy after the Motörhead singer. We thought it was funny to name a cute little bunny after a badass tattooed rocker. In a few days, Lemmy was already with us and as soon as he looked around after about two days, he started to prove to us that the name actually suits him tremendously.

Lemmy has been with us for a year today and we two die-hard dog lovers are still learning to understand rabbit talk, as is our female. And it never ceases to fascinate us, how such a small animal can fit such a big personality, ferocity and stubbornness. Lemmy steels our nerves and perfects our patience almost every day, even his friend no longer threatens him with a roasting pan every day like at the beginning, but only once a week. Lemmy is nowhere near like Delinka. He has his opinion on everything and if something is not his, it is not at all. Nevertheless, we love him and every day we do our best to make him happy with us, even if it is sometimes not easy for us - die-hard dog lovers. But we don't give up and we learn. And I personally think that he is happy with us and likes us, albeit in his own special way.
